Mata Sensei Graduated from North Carolina’s Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1992 while still on active duty with the Marine Corps.

After graduation, Mata Sensei work for two year for the Emerald Isle Police Department as a certified Police Officer.  Mata Sensei resigned from this position in 1994 when his military enlistment was complete and he moved back to Michigan to pursue a career with the Michigan State Police.

Mata Sensei began his career with the Michigan State Police on 9-11-94 when he became a recruit at the Michigan State Police Academy.

Mata Sensei graduated the Michigan State Police 110th Trooper Recruit School in January of 1995.  He was stationed at the Grand Haven Post after graduation. 

In 1997 he transferred to the West Michigan Enforcement Team where he worked for two years as a covert narcotics officer.  As part of this assignment, Mata Sensei attended Advanced Narcotics Training and Raid Entry School.

In 1998 Mata Sensei returned to the Grand Haven Post, and worked as a uniformed Trooper.

In 2001 Mata Sensei transferred to the Wayland State Police Post as a uniformed Trooper. 

In 2002 Mata Sensei became a Defensive Tactics and Ground Defense Instructor for the Michigan State Police.

Mata Sensei was assigned as the Wayland Post’s Post Community Service Officer (PCSO) in 2003.  As a PCSO Mata Sensei became an instructor at the Michigan State Police’s Teaching, Educating, And Mentoring School (TEAM).  Mata Sensei was also certified as a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD), Women’s Basic Self Defense Instructor and a Resisting Abduction Defensively Kids (RAD KIDS) Instructor.  Mata Sensei provided several TEAM, RAD, and RAD KIDS programs as a PCSO for the Wayland Post.

In 2005 Mata Sensei returned to uniformed patrol duties at the Wayland State Police Post, where he is currently assigned.
